JEWISH BUDAPEST
An enthusiastically assimilating Jewry was one of the engines of bourgeois transformation in Hungary, which blossomed at hte time of the country's 1896 millenary celebrations. Its activity left a marked trace ont he image of Budapest, which was int he process of becoming a metropolitan centre. This interaction finally ended with the anti-Jewish laws and the Holocaust. László Lugosi Lugo's beautiful photographs immortalise what has remained of this culture and reveal that which aims to live again.
